Desk Refinish | Projects for the Home

November 15, 2013

Hello, and Happy Friday!

It always feels good when it’s Friday and you know you’re almost done for the week, right? Well, in the vein of feeling good to be done, there’s a project that I finished recently that had been in the works for quite a while, and I’m so happy to have it finished. I’m not going to lie either, I’m pretty proud of how it turned out! 🙂

When Amanda and I got married, she brought with her an old desk that used to be her mom’s. The finish had begun to flake off in spots, and it didn’t really match the rest of our furniture, but she still wanted to keep it. So we came up with the idea of using it as a sort of vanity where Amanda could keep all of her makeup and such, but it would definitely need to be refinished. A lot of the other pieces of furniture that would be around it are white, so we bought a mirror to go with it, painted the frame white, and were all set to paint the desk white, when I had an idea. Why not mix it up a little and sand the desk down and stain it gray? I love a nice weathered gray piece of furniture, and I thought it would add some nice contrast to all of the rest of the white in the room…so that’s what we did! It ended up being a bit of a longer process than we anticipated, and we ended up changing our tactic from simply sanding the desk down, to first stripping it, and then sanding, (So much easier, and faster!!!) but eventually I was able to get it all finished up, complete with new hardware for the drawers! Now all we need to do is figure out lighting for it…but that’s another project for another day. 😉

So what do you guys think? And what home projects do you currently have on your To-Do list?

Thanks Alicia! It’s “weathered gray” by Rust-Oleum.
