Taking time to learn, grow, and be inspired can sometimes be difficult as an entrepreneur, but it is so important for the growth of your business. It’s so easy to keep yourself so busy with day-to-day responsibilities that you lose sight of the long-term dreams that you originally had. As photographers what that looks like is us sitting in front of our computers all day long responding to emails, editing, blogging, etc., which are all important things that need to be done, but if those are the only things we are doing, there is very little room for learning, growing, and dreaming new and bigger dreams. So, what do we do about this? We’ve wrestled with this a lot, and it’s going to be different for everyone, but it could mean hiring someone to spend 10 hours a week managing social media, and some of the back-end office work. It could mean outsourcing editing or album design. It could mean limiting the amount of work that you take on so that you can focus your energy on those clients and deliver a exceptional experience for them. Regardless of how you decide to free yourself up to focus on the bigger picture for your business, the big thing is that you are disciplined to actually use that extra time to learn, grow, and dream. To make your business better.
We recently had the opportunity to road trip with some friends of ours, Ashley and Coty of Henry Photography, to the Come Together Event in Virginia, where Katelyn James and Amy & Jordan shared about blogging and social media. It was so refreshing to take some time to learn and be challenged and inspired. We came away from the event with a refreshed focus on those specific things that we bring to our business that no one else can, the things that make our clients’ experience unique, and a desire to find ways to free us up to focus on continuing to develop those things. It’s been said that “good” is the enemy of “great”, and it is so true. What things do you need to let go of so that you can chase after your “great” instead of just doing what needs to be done to get by? No matter what it is, know that you’re not alone. We are all together in the constant process of refining and growing, and we want to stand side-by-side with you, to encourage you and remind you not only of how far you’ve come, but the reasons why you started this journey in the first place. Because it’s those things that have brought you this far, and it’s those things that will continue to energize you to keep pushing forward.
